Norwegian specialist operator Hurtigruten has announced that it is adding to its charter programme for 2013/14—with direct flights from Glasgow and Bournemouth.

The new tours are all featured in the firm’s In Search Of The Northern Lights winter brochure which includes 48 winter charter flights, a record for the company.

A five-day Arctic Highlights return cruise from Tromso to Kirkenes leads in at £GBP995 while an eight day Arctic Wonders voyage, which includes a stay at the snow hotel in Kirkenes, start at £GBP1,593 per person including flights.

Kathryn Beadle, managing director at Hurtigruten UK commented: “2013/14 is all about making the product available to even more regions of the UK. We’ve added Bournemouth and Glasgow to our list of regional airports because of the support we have been receiving from agents in these catchments. We really want them to get behind these departures and if they sell well we many look to increase these further.”

She added: “After a sell-out season of our charter packages last year, we were keen to ensure agents had enough product to meet the demand and have therefore increased our programme even more. In a recent survey by the Passenger Shipping Association, the northern lights was voted the natural phenomenon that passengers would most like to view from a cruise ship which is exciting news. Northern Norway is directly under the zone of maximum activity and is hence an ideal place to experience this great natural light show at its best. According to space scientists, the Sun’s current cycle of activity will peak this autumn, so the opportunities for seeing the northern lights in late 2013 and early 2014 should be excellent once again. We have worked hard to ensure we have the product for agents to promote.”
